राज्यातील ८ अग्निशमन अधिकारी, जवानांना राष्ट्रपती पदके प्रदान
: वाढती लोकसंख्या, महानगरांची उर्ध्व दिशेने होणारी वाढ तसेच वाढती औदयोगिक क्षेत्रे यामुळे आग व इतर आपत्तींना तोंड देणे आव्हानात्मक झाले आहे. रसायनांमुळे उद्भवणाऱ्या आगी, औद्योगिक अपघात, नैसर्गिक संकट तसेच अतिरेकी हल्ल्यांमुळे अग्निशमन दलापुढे नवनवी आव्हाने ठाकत आहेत. या परिस्थितीत अग्निशमन सेवा दलापुढे पायाभूत सेवा-सुविधांचे रक्षण करणे, सार्वजनिक ठिकाणांची सुरक्षा जपणे व औद्योगिक संपदेचे संरक्षण करणे ही महत्वाची जबाबदारी आली आहे असे प्रतिपादन राज्यपाल सी पी राधाकृष्णन यांनी आज येथे केले.
राष्ट्रीय अग्निशमन दिनानिमित्त राज्यस्तरीय अग्निशमन सेवा सप्ताहाचा शुभारंभ राज्यपालांच्या प्रमुख उपस्थितीत राजभवन मुंबई येथे करण्यात आला, त्यावेळी ते बोलत होते.
मुंबई अग्निशमन दलातील तसेच राज्याच्या इतर महानगर पालिका येथील ८ अग्निशमन अधिकारी व कर्मचाऱ्यांना यावेळी राज्यपालांच्या हस्ते गुणवत्तापूर्ण अग्निशमन सेवेकरिता जाहीर झालेले राष्ट्रपती पदक प्रदान करण्यात आले.
अग्निशमन कार्यात कृत्रिम बुद्धिमत्तेचा वापर तसेच ड्रोनचा वापर वाढविण्याबाबत अग्निशमन विभागाने गांभीर्याने विचार केला पाहिजे असे सांगताना दलाने अधिकारी व कर्मचाऱ्यांचे निरंतर कौशल्य वर्धन व प्रशिक्षण केले पाहिजे असे राज्यपालांनी सांगितले. .
मुंबईसारख्या महानगरांमध्ये गृहनिर्माण संस्थांना अग्नी सुरक्षे संबंधी जनजागृती कार्यात सहभागी करून घेतले पाहिजे तसेच गृहनिर्माण संस्था व औद्योगिक आस्थापनांचे नियमित फायर ऑडिट झाले पाहिजे असे राज्यपालांनी सांगितले.
अग्निशमन संशोधन संस्था निर्माण करा
अग्निशमन या विषयाचे सर्वंकष अध्ययन करण्यासाठी एक संशोधन संस्था निर्माण केली पाहिजे, अग्निशमन कार्यात नवनवे तंत्रज्ञान वापरले पाहिजे तसेच अग्निशमन कार्यासाठी पर्यावरण स्नेही अग्निरोधक विकसित केले पाहिजे असे राज्यपालांनी यावेळी सांगितले.
अग्निशमन कार्यात सेवानिवृत्त अग्निशमन अधिकाऱ्यांच्या अनुभवाचा उपयोग केला पाहिजे असे राज्यपालांनी सांगितले.
महाविद्यालये तसेच विद्यापीठांमध्ये युवकांसाठी कमी मुदतीचे अग्निशमन अभ्यासक्रम सुरु केले पाहिजे असे राज्यातील २९ सार्वजनिक विद्यापीठांचा कुलपती या नात्याने आपणास वाटते असे राज्यपालांनी सांगितले.
यावेळी राज्यपालांनी मुंबई अग्निशमन दलाचे मुख्य अग्निशमन अधिकारी रवींद्र अंबुलगेकर, मुंबई अग्निशमन दलाचे उपमुख्य अग्निशमन अधिकारी दीपक घोष, सब ऑफिसर सुनिल गायकवाड, लिडींग फायरमन पराग दळवी, फायरमन तातु परब, पुणे महानगरपालिकेतील फायर इंजिन वाहनचालक करीमखान पठाण, सांगली-मिरज-कुपवाड शहर महानगरपालिकेतील फायरमन कसप्पा लक्ष्मण माने व पुणे महानगरपालिकेतील फायर अटेंडण्ट नरसिंहा पटेल यांना राष्ट्रपति पदक प्रदान केले.
यावेळी महाराष्ट्र अग्निशमन सेवा संचालक संतोष वारिक यांनी राज्यपालांच्या पोशाखाला अग्निशमन ध्वजाचे तिकीट लावले. राज्यपालांनी अग्निशमन सेवा कर्मचारी कल्याण निधीला आपले योगदान दिले तसेच जनतेला निधीसाठी अधिकाधिक योगदान देण्याचे आवाहन केले.
कार्यक्रमाला मुंबई अग्निशमन दलाचे, औद्योगिक आस्थापनांचे तसेच महाराष्ट्र अग्निशमन सेवेतील वरिष्ठ अग्निशमन अधिकारी उपस्थित होते.
मुंबई डॉकयार्ड येथे सन १९४४ साली झालेल्या जहाजावरील स्फोटात प्राण गमावलेल्या अग्निशमन अधिकारी व जवानांच्या स्मरणार्थ १४ एप्रिल हा दिवस राष्ट्रीय अग्निशमन सेवा दिवस पाळला जातो तसेच या दिवसापासून अग्निशमन सप्ताह पाळल्या जातो.

Maharashtra Governor inaugurates Fire Service Week in Raj Bhavan
Maharashtra Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the State level Fire Service Week on the occasion of the National Fire Service Day at Raj Bhavan Mumbai on Mon (14 April).
The Governor presented the President’s Fire Service Medals for Meritorious Service to eight officers and firefighters of Mumbai Fire Brigade and those from Municipal Fire Services from across the State on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Radhakrishnan said:
“With rapid urbanisation, vertical growth of cities, and expanding industrial zones, the nature of emergencies has become more complex. It is therefore necessary that we involve the private sector in the fire preparedness also.
Fire service personnel today face a range of challenges—ranging from chemical fires and industrial accidents to natural disasters and even potential terrorist threats.
In this changing landscape, fire services are not just about extinguishing fires, but also about safeguarding our critical infrastructure, industrial assets, and public spaces from multifaceted threats.
There are many industrial areas in the State. Industrial fires are often massive and devastating.
We need to use the power of AI in the field of fire prevention, detection and assessment of the causes of fire.
Drones and indoor drones provide a complete picture of the fire scene, which proves helpful in ensuring the safety of life and property. We should also think in this direction.
For a city like Mumbai, it is important to involve housing societies in creating fire awareness. It should be mandatory for all societies and industrial establishments to conduct fire audits at regular intervals.
The evolving scenario demands continuous upgradation of skills, training, and infrastructure.
There is an urgent need to establish or augment a dedicated institute in Maharashtra to carry out research in fire science, explore innovative technologies for fire containment, develop eco-friendly fire suppressants, and conduct comprehensive fire safety audits of industrial and non-industrial establishments.
We must make use of the rich experience of retired fire officers. We should involve them in industrial safety programmes and emergency planning initiatives in both the public and private sectors.
In my capacity as Chancellor of 29 public universities, I often feel that we must focus on building a larger, well-trained force by starting short-term programmes in fire safety and disaster response in universities and colleges across the State.
I call upon universities and educational institutions to involve students in fire safety drills, awareness campaigns, and disaster preparedness initiatives.
I appeal to the people to generously support the Maharashtra Fire Services Personnel Welfare Association, which works for the welfare of firemen and their families.”
Chief Fire Officer of Mumbai Fire Brigade Ravindra Ambulgekar, Dy. Chief Fire Officer Deepak Ghosh, Sub Officer Sunil Gaikawad, Leading Fireman Parag Dalvi and Fireman Tatu Parab from Mumbai Fire Brigade, Karim Khan Pathan, Fire Engine Driver of Pune Municipal Corporation, Kasappa Mane, Fireman from Sangli – Miraj – Kupwad City Municipal Corporation and Narsinha Patel, Ambulance Attendant (Fire) from Pune Municipal Corporation were presented the Medals for Meritorious Fire Service by the Governor.
The Governor also inaugurated the Fund Collection drive for the Maharashtra Fire Service Welfare Fund and appealed to the people to contribute generously to the Fund.
The Fire Service Week, observed from April 14 to April 20, 2025, carries the theme: “Unite to Ignite: A Fire-Safe India”.
The National Fire Service Day is observed on April 14 to commemorate all the brave firefighters who lost their lives during a ship explosion at the Bombay Dockyard in the year 1944.
